When the shorebirds feel the urge to move along the Delaware Bay shoreline to a different feeding or roosting spot, they stream by, sometimes in one-species flocks, but often mixed as well, as in this shot of 20 Red Knots with a turnstone and a semi-palm sandpiper thrown in for variety. This is not an easy photograph to capture. Sometimes everything comes together.
